So many ideas, so little time. But of course, it's the sequel to the Vedanji one that's NOT generating ideas. Sigh.

Okay, now I have to figure out the next Vedanji one. Nevermind that I'm not done with the rewrites for TCS yet, but I kinda like to have a couple in the pipe. You know, right? Or maybe not.

Anyway.

I think this one is gonna cover a lot more time.

More than 10 days, @ least.

So. What kind of challenge could they be facing?

One thing I know for damn sure is, I DON'T want the SoD to be in on this one. He needs to not be recognizable.

Well, let's see. What would 4 Rangers be sent out to deal with?

Crime. Murder. Big Murder. A despot. Hmm...don't want to have TOO many of those in a story.

Maybe some bandits? That could work. Hmm...might not be JUST the four of them, though.

Maybe a 5th Ranger? Someone so that it's not just the "Master/Padawan" dynamic all the heck over the place? What with Elishya and Sir Rannel being about to show up fairly soon in the plot.

Hmm...are the bandits being backed by someone? Who? And WHY, fcol?

Let's see. Who would have a vested interest in de-stabilizing some area or something?

Hmmmmmmm...a potential usurper, maybe?

Maybe the bandits are the good guys? A la Robin Hood? But that gets us back to the despot. Not sure I want to do a despot. Well, why not? Well, for one thing, their final battle's gonna be against a despot.

Hmm...

So. Bandits. Backed by...well...someone with something to gain from the sitiation. Don't know what, why, how.

Try it a different way. Where do I want to END from???

Well...from Elishya's decision to go back to the Paladins. To dedicate her life. But that's almost the "B-Story" of the thingie. So...Vedanji...she decides to take off, as well.

WHY?

Because she's gone all this time, believing that Zherren is going to eventually forget about Elishya.

Wouldn't, once she quit the Rangers, have trouble coming back? Or is that yet another problem and issue. Anyway, there has to be a balance between planning the one book and planning the whole fecking series.

Okay.

So, who's the potential usurper. The king's brother? Or...sister? Dunno. Well, let's see. Hmmm.

The King's older sister. She can't be queen, not while her brother is still alive.

Or maybe she genuinely thinks she could do a better job? He's young and dumb?

Sheesh, I don't know.

Well, there's plenty to think about, I guess. Now, I really should get back to work on TCS.

AAAAAAArgh!

(See, people, this is what working on a final draft does to me! You should really just TAKE my first drafts. Riiiight.)

But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Which is a BAD thing. Cuz then I'll have to (eep) send it out.

Also waiting to hear about the apartment. I'd really like to get this one. The apartment is wonderful, loft style, and I absolutely LOVE the manager. She's, like me, an SF buff. She's pulling for us, but she's not the one who's making the decision, so...

Oh, well. *sigh*
