I've found my theme.

And...oh, wow. That eureka moment...I can't imagine any chemical high coming close.

Pssst...let you in on a secret...

"When you fight monsters, you have to be careful not to become one."

It makes sense--and more than that. It echoes, it resonates, it FITS.

What happened to Shannon's mom--that's just one expression of it. The outer expression, if you will, of Shannon's inner problem. Because Shannon KNOWS how thin that boundary can be.

Dempsey...he's another reflection of that. A cop on the take, the "dark horse" of the series. But someone who recognized the monster and turned away.

I may have to put at least a little more emphasis on him.

Okay...back to Holly's article, and the rest of my checklist. Then...on Monday...oh, crap, I'm gonna have to print everything out again.

It's okay...I can do that. It's supposed to be a manuscript SLOG, after all!
